The filmmaker who is well known for her limited but excellent works like English Vinglish and Dear Zindagirecently connect to media. She said digital media is at hike in India but such platforms do not excite her until she has some compelling story to narrate through. Gauri Shinde lastly directed Shahrukh Khan and Alia Bhatt Starrer Dear Zindagi with some other prominent casts like Ali Zafar, Kunal Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Ira Dubey. She said regarding the boom of digital media and so many other platforms emerging at hike where scope is huge ““There will be many platforms, but I think the key is the idea and the story. Once you have that and then you want to adapt that to any format, is fine. One can see the difference of 4 years in-between her first and second film so far. Her first directorial English Vinglish featured Shri Devi and Adil Hussain was released on 2012 where Dear Zindagi released on 2016.
Both films were narrating the tale of woman. Asking what on next, she said “Really nothing… For me, I don’t think there’s any pressure of having to do anything. That’s not how I think. If there’s something compelling or I really want to express something, that’s when I will take it up. I said that after ‘English Vinglish’ too that I won’t make another film that pushes me in that direction,”Gauri Shinde is married to the filmmaker R. Balkiwho was with her while quoting. Gauri further explained regarding the situation of Indian cinema where it is accepting experiments “I just hope we hope we all can manage the content well and somebody does not make something that again pushes it all back so that nobody has the guts again to do it. It needs to also be done in a very entertaining manner because it’s great that people are accepting this kind of stuff and we can experiment and take the risk of making such films,” Gauri also mentioned that the cinema should not be preachy.She said “We are not making documentaries nor are we making special video films… This is cinema. So we should fulfil the first objective of cinema, which is to engage and entertain.”
